If you have ever stumbled across photos of charming blue streets, doors and colourful plant pots, chances are, they were taken in Chefchaouen. Morocco’s blue pearl is a photographer’s paradise with photo spots around every corner. If you’ve ever been, you will agree it is hard to put your camera down. This Chefchaouen photo diary will convince you to visit as soon as it is safe to travel again.

No Chefchaouen photo diary would be complete without snaps of the view over the city. If you are heading into Chefchaouen on a day trip from Fez, this is perhaps the first photo spot you will come across. Make sure you spend some time here before heading into the medina to explore.

Leading into the medina, yet another beautifully set up shop encouraging travellers to buy Moroccan goodies! If I had travelled with more than just hand luggage, I for sure would have bought something here! But alas, I just spent the whole day taking photos instead.

Looking for that must-see location for any Chefchaouen photo diary? I had spotted this charming little alleyway on Instagram weeks before my trip. What I didn’t know is that you have to pay to get your perfect shot.
Located on Chefchaouen’s main walkway through the medina, it is pretty hard to miss. For just 5 MAD (less than a pound), the owners will let you snap away at this beautiful photo set. If you are travelling alone, don’t fret. They are more than happy to help you out and take some photos for you!

Wandering the streets of Chefchaouen, I came across this beautifully patterned fountain. The textile designer in me felt incredibly inspired by the intricate print and mix of colour. I just had to snap some photos!

Doorways and backstreets galore! Turning every corner in Chefchaouen just leads to yet more photo opportunities. Although wandering around the city is still a dream if you are exploring solo, if you can, it’s best to visit with a pal (aka personal photographer). Or, just make sure you take a tripod…

Pops of colour amongst the blue buildings of Chefchaouen is honestly a treat for the eyes. On streets like this adorned with plant pots, it is truly difficult to even think about putting your camera away!

Finally, the last in this Chefchaouen photo diary is this shot taken with a glimpse of the Rif mountains in the background. I loved how only half of the buildings on this street were painted blue, along with the pots overflowing with plants! How charming!

Chefchaouen photo diary | Top tips:
- Don’t shoot the locals without permission: Only photograph the locals with their permission. Please don’t be rude.
- Spend longer than a day in Chefchaouen: Although there isn’t a TON of stuff to do, the city is incredibly photogenic (obvs). In order to get your photos without waiting around for other tourists to take theirs, consider staying overnight and heading out early. The early bird catches the worm!
- Do your research: Looking back through this Chefchaouen photo diary, I have realised didn’t plan as well as I should have. There are so many amazing photo spots that I just wasn’t aware of because I didn’t do my research. However, that just gives me a reason to return… If you don’t want to miss all the best photo spots, do your research before you go!
- Plan your shoot: Speaking of photo spots, once you’ve decided where you want to shoot, make sure you plan your route. This way, you will make the most of your time if you are only in Chefchaouen for one day.
- Wear comfy shoes: Lastly, make sure you wear comfy shoes! You will be doing a fair bit of walking to hit up all the best locations. The last thing you need is sore feet!
