I’ve recently returned from my fifth trip to the Netherlands and after spending a lot of time in the capital over the years, I’ve done my fair share of shopping in the city.
On my last trip, I could have spent a small fortune! Thankfully, I managed to rein it in by buying just one dress and a few souvenirs. The damage could have been a lot worse (wink wink).

Best thrift shops in Amsterdam
1 | Marbles Vintage
Opening Hours: Open daily from 11am until 7pm
Location: De Pijp, not far from the famous Albert Cuypmarkt
One of the top thrift shops in Amsterdam has got to be Marbles Vintage. Located just a short 5-minute stroll from Albert Cuyp Street, it’s a great place to check out if you’re heading to Albert Cuypmarkt (which you should totally do if you’re heading to De Pijp).
They have a whole wealth of vintage goods on offer from old-school cameras to funky denim and everything in between. They also sell cool accessories such as jewellery, scarves and sunglasses.
As I scoured the store for something to buy, I did pick up some snazzy sunglasses. However, despite how cool they were, they sadly felt a little bit too big for my head.
If you’re a fan of shoes, you’re in luck! Marbles also offers a selection of classic shoes including Dr Martens and Converse (if they don’t get snapped up quickly that is).
Conveniently, this well-loved vintage clothing store is located in the bustling De Pijp neighbourhood. Nearby, you’ll find a wide selection of bars, cafes and restaurants. In fact, this part of the city is famous for its varied eateries offering everything from local Dutch dishes to Mexican delights.
2 | Rumors Vintage
Opening Hours: Open daily from 11am until 7pm with a later closing time of 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays
Location: Two locations on Haarlemmerstraat
Next up, Rumours Vintage is well worth a browse. With two stores located on the same street, you can easily pop by both if you’re treating yourself to a day of shopping in Amsterdam.
These particular shops are known for their vibrant pieces, selling a mix of styles from 50s classics to bold retro frocks. If you’re on the hunt for colourful vintage treasures to jazz up your wardrobe, this is the place to be!
Not only that, but it’s just a 10-minute stroll from Centraal Station which makes it easy to check out the very best things to do in Amsterdam once you’re all shopped out.
3 | Penny Lane Vintage Boutique
Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday: 10.30am – 6.30pm | Sunday: 11am – 6pm
Location: Oude Pijp
The moment | stepped into Penny Lane Vintage Boutique, I was in awe. Let me tell you, this popular Amsterdam vintage shop knows how to display its goods!
Boasting clothes in all colours of the rainbow, they sort their vintage delights by colour. It was a pleasure to root through the rails for something that caught my eye.
Unfortunately, a few things did catch my eye, but they were not in my size. That’s the trouble with vintage fashion, you can’t size up or down.
If you happen to find a hidden gem, you just have to hope that it’s in your size. This time around, it just wasn’t meant to be (sigh).
Regardless of my failed shopping attempt at this stunning boutique, it was my favourite vintage shop in Amsterdam. It’s a true treasure trove if you’re on the hunt for any kind of second-hand clothing.
They sell everything from vintage denim to beautiful tea dresses. Not only that, but they have lots of beautiful bags, scarves and other accessories on offer. I just hope you have more luck than I did!
4 | Bij Ons Vintage
Opening Hours: Each branch has slightly varied opening hours, but they’re typically open from 11am until 7pm
Location: Three locations across the city (including one in the famous area of the Nine Streets)
There are many amazing clothing stores in Amsterdam. Especially around the Nine Streets area. In fact, this particular part of the city is a well-known shopping hub offering everything from vintage shops to high-end boutiques.
One place you need to check out is Bij Ons Vintage! It’s a treasure trove for vintage lovers thanks to its beautiful selection of men’s and women’s second-hand clothes.
Despite this, the prices were more than you would typically expect. However, Amsterdam is quite expensive compared to other European destinations so perhaps that’s quite normal across the board.
Although things could be cheaper, the staff here are incredibly friendly and will do anything to help you out.
Lastly, if you’re somewhere else in town, they also have other stores Haarlemmerdijk and Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. This is fab as it means you don’t need to go out of your way if you’re not in the area.
5 | Kiloshop De Pijp
Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday: 10.30am – 6.30pm | Sunday: 11am – 6pm
Location: Albert Cuypstraat (home to the ever-popular Albert Cuypmarkt)
I’ve always enjoyed buying vintage items per kilo. Back when I was in my late teens, I was obsessed with vintage clothes.
I would frequent the vintage stores in my hometown’s hipster neighbourhood. I then started going to kilo sales where I could purchase a kilo worth of clothes for £15; what a bargain!
When I noticed that Amsterdam had a kilo store, I had to give it a try!
However, one thing that I will say is that it seemed pretty pricey for what you get. With it being a second-hand store, I did expect things to be cheaper than they were.
Regardless, it’s a lovely place to shop if you’re on the hunt for statement pieces or one-of-a-kind outfits. There are lots of lovely clothes on offer from retro-looking dresses to old-school denim, you’ll find everything here! I even saw a funky pair of rollerskates. How cool!
After stopping by a fair few Amsterdam vintage shops, this was the only one I bought something from so it’s definitely worth a visit! Plus, one of the most popular markets in the Dutch capital is held here every day so you can easily visit both in an hour or so.
6 | Time Machine Vintage
Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday: 11am – 7pm | Sunday: 12 noon – 6pm
Location: De Wallen
As one of the most popular thrift shops in Amsterdam, this place is highly rated for its varied selection of clothes on offer. They sell everything from winter coats to snazzy kimonos and everything in between.
Time Machine Vintage is also known for its fantastic staff. They’re happy to help with any questions and offer a friendly and relaxed vibe as you browse through vintage goods.
Most of all, it’s a super chilled-out shopping experience which is ideal if you’re on a bit of a whistle-stop tour of the city.
7 | Vijzel Vintage
Opening Hours: Open daily from 1pm until 8pm
Location: Centrally located close to Foam Photography Museum
If you’re looking for vintage shops that sell a whole range of items, then head to Vijzel Vintage.
Not only does this spot sell cool clothing and accessories, but it also has a vast collection of unique home decor pieces. In fact, the best thing about this particular shop was the quirky little ornaments on offer.
Despite the funky assortment of items, it would be wrong for me to not mention one thing: the owner.
During my visit to the store, he made me feel a little on edge. Despite that, I thought that perhaps he was just a little drunk (it was during Amsterdam Pride) and gave him the benefit of the doubt. However, upon reading further reviews on Google, this seems to be the norm for this dude.
If you’re lucky enough to be in the area when he isn’t at work, I highly recommend popping in. However, if he is, don’t let his personality bother you. Some people find him rude, others find him passionate.
If you can look past him, this place has lots of unique vintage gems that are worth checking out. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you…
8 | Episode

Location: Four stores across the city
With a number of stores across the city, Episode is a popular vintage shop in Amsterdam. It’s like a true vintage jungle with lots of lovely pieces for sale.
You’ll find things such as the ever-popular Levi jeans, bomber jackets, checkered shirts and much more.
If you’re shoe shopping, they also have a varied collection of branded shoes on offer including Converse and Vans in a range of colours.
The staff are also super friendly and happy to help with any questions you might have. As a popular chain vintage store in Amsterdam, it’s worth checking out if you’re into unique clothing.
Markets: Cheap shopping in Amsterdam
9 | IJHallen Flea Market
Opening Hours: 9am – 4.30pm
Location: NDSM Wharf
IJHallen Flea Market is located in one of my favourite areas of Amsterdam; NDSM Wharf. If you’re spending the day checking out some of the crazy things to do in Amsterdam, spending an hour or so on the hunt for bargains is a must-do during your time in the city.
Unfortunately, the market only runs a few times a month so you may miss out if it’s not operating during your trip. If you have a huge interest in vintage gems, check out their calendar to plan ahead!
If you’ve managed to get lucky, prepare yourself for a true treasure trove of vintage delights. With hundreds of stands across the area, you can take a deep dive to find hidden gems and beautiful items.
10 | Waterlooplein Flea Market

Location: Waterlooplein
Running daily (except Sunday) Waterlooplein Flea Market is one of the best places for vintage shopping in Amsterdam.
Not only will you find clothes, but antiques, art supplies, homeware, vinyl and much more are also sold here. Simply put, it’s a fab place for browsing.
It’s also a great place to check out if you’re looking for unique gifts from Amsterdam. Instead of buying a typical souvenir, you can buy your loved one something a little different from your getaway in the Dutch capital. Or just treat yourself, that’s fine too!
