As somebody who usually travels on a budget, switching things up and opting for a five-star hotel instead of a hostel on a recent trip to Athens felt pretty great. As much as I love staying in hostels and meeting like-minded travel lovers, everyone enjoys a little bit of luxury sometimes and Wyndham Grand Athens definitely did not disappoint.
Checking in to Wyndham Grand Athens
After catching a late night flight from Manchester to Athens and jumping into a taxi from the airport, we arrived at the hotel at approximately 05.30am. Since check-in wasn’t until 2pm, we were worried that we would be forced to hang around in the lobby or head out to explore the city on little sleep. However, we were greeted with an incredible service by the charming receptionist and an early check-in which meant we could have a much-needed nap before heading out. This gave me great first impressions of Wyndham Grand!
Wyndham Grand Athens offers a variety of rooms at different prices, starting with the cheapest standard rooms to the most expensive presidential suite with amazing views of the Acropolis (and the hefty price tag to match).
The rooms come with everything you need from toiletries and an iron to a coffee machine and seriously comfy robes. The air-con was also a godsend after a busy day of exploring the Greek capital in the peak of Summer and if you’re in the mood for some room service, you have access to it 24/7 – what’s not to love?
Being located just a short walk away from Metaxourgeio metro station means you can reach a lot of the main attractions in Athens in around 30 minutes or less. Within twenty minutes of leaving the hotel, you can be soaking in the history of the Acropolis or drinking cocktails on a rooftop bar. You really can’t ask for a much better location if you want to stay central, but not too close to the hustle and bustle of the city.
Wyndham Grand boasts some incredible facilities including a spa, an amazing pool, a beautifully decorated restaurant and best of all, amazing views of the Acropolis from the rooftop bar. If I was spending longer in Athens, I definitely would have taken advantage of the brilliant facilities that the hotel has to offer.
Overall, if given the chance I would definitely return to Wyndham Grand Athens. I fell in love with the stunning decor, great location, amazing facilities and the extremely welcoming staff who provided us with great customer service.
